Senior Support Group: Independent vs Assisted Living

September 22 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

On Tuesday, September 22 at 11:00 AM, nurse practitioner Kaitlyn Pelletier will join us for the Park City Senior Center’s second Senior Support Group meeting. This month, Kaitlyn will discuss the difference between independent living and assisted living with a focus on the following topics:

Why?

  • Independent Living: For older adults who want to trade household chores, cooking, and maintenance for a social, active lifestyle with built-in community.

  • Assisted Living: For those who need hands-on help with daily tasks—like taking medications safely, bathing, dressing, or moving around comfortably.

Where?

  • Independent Living: Feels like an apartment complex or a resort. Residents live in private units with full kitchens and access to shared gyms, dining rooms, and group outings.

  • Assisted Living: Set in a secure, easy-to-navigate facility designed for quick staff access. Private rooms or suites feature safety additions like grab bars and emergency call buttons.

When?

  • Independent Living: Best entered proactively while a person is still healthy, mobile, and fully independent, making the choice to downsize on their own terms.

  • Assisted Living: Usually time to consider when safety or health becomes a concern—often signaled by frequent falls, forgotten meds, unmanaged health conditions, or caregiver exhaustion.

Regardless of whether you are 60 or 100, doing well or struggling, happy or unhappy, your perspective and participation are valued in Senior Support Group. Please sign up at the Park City Senior Center today or contact Lauren at (435) 631-9087 or [email protected].
