Current Scams Targeting Seniors
- Government Impersonation Scams: Fraudsters claim to be from the Social Security Administration, IRS, or Medicare, stating a Social Security number is suspended or debt is owed.
- Grandparent Scams: Scammers call, often using AI voice cloning, pretending to be a grandchild in legal or medical trouble needing immediate funds.
- Tech Support Scams: Fake pop-ups or calls claim a computer has a virus, demanding payment to “fix” it or requesting remote access.
- Romance Scams: Perpetrators create fake profiles on social media/dating sites to build trust and eventually request money for emergencies.
- Lottery/Sweepstakes Scams: Victims are told they won a prize but must pay taxes or fees upfront.
- Investment/Crypto Scams: Fraudulent opportunities targeting retirement savings with promises of high returns.
